More Info ✨
  • Type 2 hair has an 'S' pattern that can be very loose or tight and springy. Even if you have a few curly ringlets in your hair, you'll fall in the "wavy" category if the majority of your hair forms an 'S' shape.

  • Type 3 hair forms ringlets that range from loose and bouncy to tight and springy. You fall in the curly range if most of your strands form a clearly defined corkscrew spiral.

  • Type 4 hair forms small, very tight ringlets that may form a cylinder or zig-zag shape. Kinky-Coily hair can be soft and fine or have coarser strands.

More Info ✨
  • Your 2A waves are tousled, loose, and just barely noticable. You're jusssst on the cusp of having some wave to your hair and you'll likely have big S patterns that may be a bit tighter around your ears and face. It's likely that you have some straight strands too.

  • Within your 2B waves, you're able to spot a clear S pattern, but every strand might not look exactly the same. Some waves may be looser, some may be tighter, but you probably don't have any straight pieces.

  • Your 2C waves have the tightest S-pattern you'll see in a wave before it starts to turn into a ringlet. You might see a few corkscrew pieces here and there but, for the most part, you have a defined S-shape to your hair.

More Info ✨
  • Your 3A curls have big, loose ringlets that are about the size of a piece of sidewalk chalk. Hair texture can be very fine with minimal volume, or thick and dense with lots of volume.

  • Your 3B curls are a bit tighter than the previous hair type and, when healthy, will be springy and bouncy. The size of your curls will be roughly that of a Sharpie and hair texture will range from fine to dense.

  • Your 3C curls form tightly coiled ringlets that are about the size of a pencil. Your spirals tend to be denser than the previous curl types and more prone to dryness.

More Info ✨
  • Your 4A coils are verrry tight (about the size of a mascara wand) and they may have some kinks to them too. When your hair is wet, it will typically repel rather than absorb water.

  • Your 4B coils are densely packed together and have a clearly defined zig-zag pattern with sharp angles. When your hair is wet, it will typically repel rather than absorb water.

  • Your 4C kinks and coils have a very tight Z-pattern that may be hard to see at times. Although you may have ample length, you experience the most shrinkage due to how tightly your curls grow.
